Questions fréquentes
Tout ce que vous devez savoir sur MDFileConverter.
General
What is MDFileConverter?↓
MDFileConverter is a free, browser-based tool for converting tabular data between formats — including Excel, CSV, Word, TSV, JSON, and Markdown. All processing happens in your browser; no files are ever uploaded to a server.
Is MDFileConverter really free?↓
Yes. The core tools are completely free with no account required, no rate limits, and no credit card. A Pro tier is planned for batch conversion, API access, and advanced features.
Does it work offline?↓
Once the page is loaded, all conversion logic runs in JavaScript in your browser. You do not need an internet connection to convert files, though you do need one to initially load the page.
Privacy & Security
Is my data safe?↓
Completely. All conversions happen entirely inside your browser. Your files are never uploaded to any server and we literally cannot see your data. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Does MDFileConverter use cookies?↓
No cookies are set. We use localStorage only for your theme preference, converter options, and dismissing the privacy banner — all stored only on your own device.
What data does the conversion history store?↓
The last 10 conversions are stored in your browser's localStorage. Each entry stores the converter type, input name, and a preview of the first 120 characters of the output. No file content is sent anywhere.
File Formats
What file formats are supported?↓
Input: .xlsx, .xls (Excel), .csv, .tsv, .docx (Word), Markdown text, JSON text. Output: Markdown, .xlsx, .csv, .json.
Can I convert multiple Excel sheets at once?↓
Yes. When you upload an Excel workbook with multiple sheets, each sheet is converted separately and labelled with a ## Sheet Name heading in the output.
Does the Word converter support all table types?↓
The Word converter handles standard tables created with Insert → Table in Microsoft Word. Rich formatting (bold, links, colors) is stripped to plain text. Merged cells preserve content but lose their spanning.
Is PDF supported?↓
Not currently. PDF-to-Markdown conversion requires OCR or a server-side rendering engine and cannot run reliably in a browser. It is planned as a Pro feature.
Technical
Is there a file size limit?↓
There's no artificial limit. Processing is bounded only by your browser's available memory. Files up to ~50 MB work reliably in practice. Very large files may cause your browser tab to use more RAM.
What is a Markdown table?↓
A Markdown table is a plain-text format using pipe (|) characters to separate columns and dashes (---) for the header separator row. It renders as a formatted table on GitHub, GitLab, Notion, Obsidian, and most documentation platforms.
Why does the URL fetch tab fail?↓
Browser fetch requests to external URLs are subject to CORS (Cross-Origin Resource Sharing) restrictions. If the target server does not send the appropriate CORS headers, the browser will block the request. This is a browser security feature, not a bug.
Why use Markdown tables instead of HTML?↓
Markdown tables are readable as plain text, diff-friendly in Git, and render beautifully on all major documentation platforms. HTML tables have more formatting power but are verbose and not version-control friendly.
